copyright (didnt post before)

looking at the images and studying the reading i dont believe that he infringed. i think that he was sefe in the borderlines he changed the image enough for it to not be exactly the same, how can he even prove that this was the exact same photograph? how many times had Obama stood like that? probably hundreds, i just think that by changing all the colors and adding the "HOPE" emblem and the logo he changed the concept of this picture dramatically.

proposition

for my technology proposition, i want to do my piece on the way you can hide behind technology, become a completely different person and how a person can create themselves into anyone they want to be. i want to show the difference between internet and reality. ill do this by using a series of picture comparisons i have found and created.

technology reaction

1. I think there are many consequences and benefits to technology  i think sometimes the consequences outweigh the benefits. it think bottom line thanks to technology were creating a more distant and less communicative nation, one that can build relationships hiding behind a computer screen letting people live in unreal realities. they can make up their entire life on a computer, work and socialize and this is creating an awkward generation. while were creating these social recluse we are also creating ways to make life easier and better such as GPS and all the learning applications you can visit, the fact that anymore all the information you want is at your fingertips and you just have to possess it and harness it all the multitude of what you can learn is incredible.

2. i think technology has broadly changed the way we view art, think of this, one wouldn't see half the art we see not if it wasn't for technology, i don't think i could just walk down a random street in Mansfield and see a Linksy piece. also technology is changing how we are, and how we interpret things such as art, art to me is anything that makes you feel so these internet "memes" could be considered art, maybe not in the same was as Picasso but you get the point. also were learning to make art the non traditional way with technology, i mean thats why we took this class, i cant draw or paint but maybe just maybe ill be able to create something using the technology we are provided with, but then again maybe not haha. :)

photography expo.

as i walked through Jeff Sprang's expo in the art gallery i felt like i was being transformed through time. all the old photographs really makes you think about what has happened before you. my favorite set of pictures were the ones of the impeachment of former president Nixon. I've always been particularly interested in that part of history so to see pictures and know that he was there and actually saw the whole thing makes it feel a little more real to me. i enjoyed this expo much more then the previous one but i believe thats because this one was more simple, you could just enjoy the art not have to think what it was about. the pictures told a story you didn't have to create one or look for a meaning. simplicity at its best! <3

music map (the soundtrack to my life)

this is basically the soundtrack of my life. everywhere i go i have my i pod in my pocket. i'm always listening to it, discovering new bands, downloading new songs. i've been to ever 35 concerts so music is obviously important to me.  i just love it. when i realized my texting map wasn't going to work out (friends do not know how to cooperate.) i thought what do i love most? something i could have fun with? music was the first thing that popped into my mind. so i took an entire day listening to music and wrote what artist and album of every song i listened to that day. the more opaque the less i listened to that album then they are in order from most favorite to least favorite. (i love them all!) i hope you guys like this i worked really hard and think this is the project i've enjoyed the most so far!

the begginning revised (sorry!)

this is only the beginning ;) what i was planning to do was each color represents one of my friends  and i wanted to show our communication patters. the lines and squiggly beacuse were all in motion and the layout is friends that are the closest emotionally closest. i was planning to use lines to represent the back and forth texting that we all do everyday. not only between me (the pink line of course) and all of them but the rest of them. we are like a big circle of communication. go verizon for making it happen! haha

october 15th

for my map i had two different ideas. number one. i wanted to map out the texting patters between my 5 closest friends and myself. texting is our constant way of communication so i thought it would be a good idea. second idea (and my favorite.) is the repition of concepts in the 3 albums from my favorite band. which would you guys prefer?

my choice

firstly i hope the link worked! secondly i know i liked all the things that had to do with music. seeing as thats one of things im most obsessed with. i just think this looks really cool and the concept is great. :)

war on beauty

thanks for waiting guys i was having some technical difficulties.  :)

sorry! haha ok heres my statement!
this post is about basically our war on beauty. the girls on the stage are what america tries to tell you is acceptable beauty. this is starting younger and younger as you'll notice the young girls mixed in on stage with the adults. these young girls (usually toddlers but even BABIES) are put through many things including spray tans and being forced to wear water bras. i dont know about you but my parents always let me be free, they encouraged me to use my brain and have fun. thats why i included the collection of "normal" girls of all shapes and sizes in the front of the stage. this is what they should actually be doing. having fun and being themselves not print out copys of each other.

materializing new space

walking around the exhibit one particular picture stood out to me. Picture number 17.  i thought it was beautiful in a slightly alarming way. from across the room you just see so much going on and it brings you in as you study all the detail of everything. you look at each individual bird and the mice and the mini war that seems to be going on between them. the mice and invading the home of these birds taking their eggs and killing some of them in the process. its tragic but at the same time compelling i want to see even more.
the work its self is is a digital composite silver  gelatin print. it was created by Jaime Kennedy from a series called the down the garden, it is a combination of photography sculpture and digital imaging. these effects all work together drawing you in and showing you this completely fictional world that for a moment you can almost believe is real.
in the picture you see the mice invading looking hostile and like they do not belong there. some of the mice are snarling and stealing the eggs. the mice take up most of the right side of the picture running into the nests on the ground and through the branches of nearby trees. the birds on the other hand and the left side of the picture look slightly more calm, which makes very little sense seeing as their homes are being invaded, i think this is due in large part to the large bird with the apparatus wings, who seems to be coming forth and protecting them. this bird is much larger than any of the others and with his created wings he gives off a sense of power.
to me i think that the birds and mice represent the constant fight between good and evil, the apparatus bird representing differences that you can either learn to embrace or let them define you. the only thing i question is the butterfly in the picture. one lone butterfly flying between the bird and the mice. what does it represent? the calm before the storm? the beauty in every situation? im eager to hear what anyone else has to think on this piece.

optimism vs pessimism

Pessimism

optimism

3 images i appreciated

As i read the assigned reading i first skimmed through the pictures, 3 automatically stood out to me. i read through it and the idea of them stood out even more.
The first one, was the two pictures by Charles Cohen, (12b, and Andie 04) these archival inkjet prints take pornographic images and remove what would be considered the main attraction. this just blew my mind. first of all i still blushed just thinking of what could be there, but once i got past that i was able to focus on the other things like the blue bed or the wall paper orr even the bowl of fruit on the table. to me its like hes trying to tell people to appreciate the main things, but dont forget the little things as well.
the second picture (my favorite of all) was by Ken Donzales-Day. (ramoncita at the cantina) i thought it was beautiful the way that everyone in the picture was slightly blurred and in bland color where the woman was in a beautiful almost teal dress and she looks like shes in fluid motion. and i thought it was because she was the only woman but if you look closer then you notice a woman sitting down, this makes me think that my teal dress woman may have had some kind of importance. the man beside her also has a light shading of the blue on his chest making me think that they were connected in some way.
lastly the images by Annu Palakunnathu Matthew. (bollywood satirized) i like the way he too the dreamlike images we associate with an escape from reality and brings reality into it. when i go to the movies i look for an escape from whats going on in the real world. im probably not the only one who thinks this way. He takes things like current events such as the nuclear crisis, to your escape. then he throws the truth into it writing things on the characters such as "Casanova"  or "don juan" telling you that real life isnt like these movies. life is no fairy tail.
